After 15 years of diverse IT experience, Valaset Services President Tom Stroup was inspired to create a company that would provide asset remarketing and recycling services for the small to medium business market (SMB).

 "I had been selling and supporting network integration projects in the SMB market space for years and noticed a common theme among my clients: What do I do with the old equipment?  There are several options that each customer should consider:

• Reuse the equipment: The best choice for a customer is to reuse the equipment somewhere else in their environment.  In many instances this is not a viable option.
• Resell the equipment: This will allow the customer to recover some of the investment they have made in the equipment.  It also helps to reduce the overall cost of refreshing technology equipment in their environment.  This is where Valaset Services can help them maximize the amount of money they can get for their old IT or Telecom equipment.
• Donate the equipment: This allows the customer to take a tax write off (if donated to a non-profit charity or educational institution), but creates some security risks if the customer does not properly scrub the data off of the PCs, Servers and Laptops prior to donating the equipment.  Scrubbing data is another area where Valaset Services can provide assistance to our clients.
• Recycle the equipment: When the equipment no longer holds any value, the equipment should be recycled in an "environmentally friendly" manner.  Valaset Services can assist our clients in performing this function through the use of an EPA Certified recycling center.

Customers sometimes just store the equipment in a closet or warehouse somewhere and forget about it.  There are several drawbacks to this approach:

1. If the equipment still has value, sell it and put the money back in the IT budget. 
2. A customer sometimes forgets that they are paying for that storage space that could be better used for business purposes.
3. If the computers still have sensitive data on them, this presents a security risk. 

Other customers will consider throwing the equipment in a dumpster.  This presents legal issues (There are EPA regulations about the disposal of IT and Telecom equipment) and is environmentally unsafe due to all of the materials used in the equipment.
